I've often struggled finding ease and balance with marketing. As an entrepreneur it can feel like you have to either work non stop or have a small army to make any kind of meaningful impact.
I believe in a different way to go about it all. Something that was not exactly taught to me in school, or in my time doing marketing at larger corporations or even in small business.
Trust in your intuition - that gut feeling you have about something whether that is NOT wanting to send another generic email campaign on a Tuesday morning, OR creating some clever post on social media that doesn't feel authentic.
And, I've found that the more "innocent" I can be the easier it is to have clarity and connect to my intuition to make decisions - in life and business. Often times innocence can be confused with being naive. In fact they are quite different. What I mean by innocence is the ability to see a situation clearly - without being clouded by preconceived thought. That is not always easy. If you think about a child exploring nature, or the last time you tried something with a true beginner's mind - you were open to the experience and welcomed it fully. All of it.
I believe using our intuition to drive our decisions is much more powerful and real than any marketing formula.
We are able to see clearly when we wipe the fog from the mirror.
Put It Into Action:
Think of one marketing channel you'd like to explore, or something that has been looming in your mind. For instance, this could be starting an Instagram page or beginning an email marketing strategy.
Next ask yourself, what is the purpose of this platform. Literally - what is the main activity people do or use it for? Is it sharing and viewing photos and videos or learning in more detail? Try to see the marketing channel from a place of innocence - not judgment, especially if you are conflicted. Get very specific and clear.
Then ask yourself, "what do I think would actually be interesting to see on XYZ?" (note: it can be helpful to view this from your perspective as a student - not the teacher, marketer, business owner, etc.)
Take what you've just learned into consideration and ask yourself what you immediately feel that YOU want to do on that platform. What do you think will resonate, and what would YOU like to see if you were the student? Often times the first thing that we think comes from a place of truth if we stay in the framework of being innocent and inquisitive.
BONUS TIP: While I think it can be helpful to see what other teachers are doing as a way to generate ideas and inspiration for what you might be able to do...be cautious as it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and think you don't have what it takes, or enough time, etc.
I'm eager to hear if this was helpful - let me know.
p.s. If you have a question and would like to email me - please do! I'd love to hear from you all.
